A $1000 Cash Prize will be awarded to the winning New England Student working in Traditional Photo Processes, Camera Modification or Photo History.
This contest is open to all New England high school, art school, technical school, college and university students who are exploring the visual media in any of the following ways:
All topics for the PHSNE Prize must be submitted in writing to the Contest Committee by May 1, 2009 for approval. A short one-page description of the project must be mailed to: PHSNE Contest, Photographic Historical Society of New England, P.O. Box 650189, West Newton, MA 02465. All topics will be approved or declined by June 1, 2009. All notifications will be made by mail. Please include a self addressed stamped envelope with your project description.
All completed entries must be submitted by December 31, 2009 to the address below. The winner will be announced on March 8, 2010. The winner will receive a one year student membership in the Photographic Historical Society of New England and a cash prize of $1,000.00.

- May 1, 2009 - All topics for the PHSNE Prize must be submitted in writing to the Contest Committee by May 1, 2009 for approval (a short one-page description of the project).

- December 31, 2009 - All completed entries must be submitted by December 31, 2009.
- March 8, 2010 - The winner will be announced on March 8, 2010. The winner will receive a one year student membership in the Photographic Historical Society of New England and a cash prize of $1,000.00.

- Modifying a currently out-of-production film or movie camera of any size or type that is more than 50 years old (pre-1958) to produce images using currently available materials in either film or digital formats.
- Writing an article of at least 1,000 words about photographic images, processes, history or the analysis of a photographer’s body of work. This work should relate to some aspect of New England photography and should utilize at least some primary sources.
- Creating new images by modifying traditional images and transforming these images using photochemical processes, digital technology or multimedia techniques.
