Submitting Images for the Gallery

We are looking for images of PHSNE historical interest for the galley. At present we would particularly like group photos or photos of PHSNE members at various activities such as meetings, auctions, trips, and photographica.

Submission of an image is not a assurance that it will be posted in a timely manner, if ever.

Image Technical Guidelines

To make life easier for your site administrator and the viewer, please conform to the following guidelines if practical for you:

  1. Crop images to your taste, setting the maximum dimension to about 1024 pixels. We will make an exception to this guideline in cases such as panoramas or images of unusual historical interest to PHSNE. We do this to minimize the storage requirements of the image and the time required for it to load in the user's browser while maintaining good quality for most images
  2. If you can, and desire to assure name credit and copyright protection, watermark the image with your name. The administrator will attempt to assure that credit is given in the text near the image on its primary display page, but can not do that for the Gallery Browser. And of course, errors can occur. If you watermark the image, the watermark will stay with it. Also, note that while no special action will be taken to remove EXIF or IPTC metadata on a file that may contain copyright and other information, the image processing software that automatically creates the various sized image files for the gallery display may remove such information.
  3. If you can, save the image as a jpeg, using the sRGB color space, medium file size/compression, and as a progressive scan file. This assures maximum compatibility with browsers and displays. It also minimizes time to load the image for most users, while maintaining good quality for most images.
  4. If you prefer you can use png rather than jpeg files.

The site administrator will process files to meet these guidelines if you are unable to provide a file meeting these guidelines. We have access to Graphic Converter and PhotoShop CS3, so most formats can be converted by the administrator. We can also correct some image defects (skew, exposure problems, image noise) if you can't do it. However this may delay adding the image to the Gallery until the administrator has additional time to process the file.

Sending Images

Contact the site administrator before submitting any images. You can contact the administrator by e-mail or at the PHSNE Forum. Look up Joe Walters in the PHSNE Member Directory and send an e-mail to me or call me. Images may be delivered by e-mail, by an online drop box service (such as YouSendIt), or by mailing a CD to Joe Walters.

You may also contact me via the PHSNE Forum board Ask the Forum Administrator. Only registered PHSNE Forum members can contact the administrator on the on-line board.
