The Photographic Historical Society of New England (PHSNE) is a nonprofit, tax-exempt society founded in 1973 to promote the knowledge of photographic history in a variety of exciting educational programs and activities.

PHSNE holds monthly meeting on the first Sunday of each month, except during July and August, at the Americal Center (467 Main Street, Wakefield MA 01880) or Woman's Club Workshop (72 Columbus St, Newton Highlands, MA). Check the Calendar to confirm the meeting location. Each meeting has a Mini Trade Fair, a member show and tell, and a presentation by a knowledgeable collector or historian speaking on a particular phase of photography. An annual field trip is scheduled in the spring.

PHSNE is one of the largest of the forty regional photographic historical societies in the world. Members reside throughout the United States, Canada, and the world. Many members join to receive The Journal and other publications of PHSNE. More info on member benefits...

PHSNE publishes The New England Journal of Photographic History annually with informative articles on photo history and collecting by internationally known writers as well as world-wide news of photography. PHSNE members receive The Journal.

PHSNE sponsors the popular Photographica Show and Sale in the Boston area in the spring and fall. The Photographica Show offers members and the public an opportunity to browse and buy images, antique and usable cameras, equipment and ephemera. Some attend the Photographica Shows to sell photographic items to dealer-members throughout the world. The Photographica Shows are so popular that dealer space is sold out months in advance of the show date.

PHSNE sponsors an annual Members Auction (usually in December), giving members the chance to buy and sell images, rare collectibles, and usable photographic equipment. Special Auctions are also held from time to time. PHSNE members assist in preparing the items for sale and conducting the auctions.

Whether you join as an individual, a family, or as the representative of an institution, PHSNE gives you the opportunity to join with other members interested in all aspects of photography and its history.
